A construction company with multiple sites and companies within the group needed to consolidate their employee training records into a centralised database. Each company (or set of companies) within the group had a separate database to store the training records for their employees. It was near impossible to generate reports from a group wide perspective, not to mention the inconsistencies between the different databases.
We decided to build a centralised database, accessed via a web browser over the Internet. The application would run on a secure socket layer and protected via a username and password and firewall. Permissions were set in place so that individuals could only see the appropriate amount of data (i.e. only employees within their company), but with some group users seeing the whole picture. The solution was such a success within the company that WEBIT undertook the task of moving more of their databases to an online solution. We have now developed over 8 applications running on the same platform.
